"The Wonder of All Things" by Jason Mott is Unputdownable!

"Some would later say it was all too fast to understand.  Others that they had never known horror could last so long."  Quote from page 11 of The Wonder of All Things.
Just thought I would "wet your whistle" for this book with a little teaser for you from it.  The Wonder of All Things by Jason Mott centers on a young girl named Ava.  One day the world finds out that Ava has a special power--the ability to heal--when she saves the life of her childhood friend.  However, this ability comes at a cost.  Will she use it to save the life of one she loves?

This is an outstanding read with several story lines that are all good!  I really liked the ending as well.  Entertainment Weekly was right about this one!  The book and the author both rock! Read and enjoy!

"The Deepest Secret" by Carla Buckley

The Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley has two main story lines: a hit-and-run accident and a young boy who cannot be exposed to light of any sort. Because there is even more to this book than that, including lots of "wow" moments and believable characters, I loved this book and consider it a "must read." It is my book of the month so far for March! They don't get much better than this!
(Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

The Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley is about Eve, a hit-n-run driver who accidentally killed her best friend’s daughter.  She finds herself in a real dilemma because she has a teenage son, Tyler, with a very rare disease who needs special care.  Her husband is a lawyer who works out-of-town a lot and only comes home on weekends.  She also has a lying teenage daughter, Melissa who has secrets of her own.  This book poses a lot of questions along the way.  Tyler is like a prisoner in his own house because UV rays can be deadly for him.  He is only allowed out after sundown but manages to know more about their neighbors and what goes on in the neighborhood than anyone else in his family.  Each person in the family has a secret.

This was a fast-moving book for me because it kept me wondering if Eve is ever going to confess.  My feelings about Eve and her husband changed as the book progressed, but I liked Tyler all the way through; Melissa not so much.  This is a good thought-provoking read that kept me turning the pages and would be great for a book club discussion.

"Heartbroken" by Lisa Unger

Heartbroken by Lisa Unger is what I call a woman's book, but this 59-yr-old man enjoyed it very much!  There are lots of good plot lines that kept me interested to the max!  When all the characters are in one place, the action explodes!  This is a page turner for sure that I think would make a real good "Lifetime" movie.  Make time to read this one; you will be glad you did!

Karen's review:
Heartbroken by Lisa Unger was a disturbing read for me because Emily continues making bad decisions over and over to protect, Dean, the man she loves, who is an ex-con.  Things go very wrong when Brad, his “friend” from prison, shows up demanding money.  Her life completely falls apart when she realizes she has nothing and isn’t even who she thought she was.  Then there is another family with strained relationships and secrets from the past.  When Kate, a new author who wrote a fiction book based on family journals, takes her daughter and her girlfriend, Lulu to Heart Island to visit her 75-yr-old mother, Birdie, for their annual family vacation, it turns into a horror show and is the worst vacation they ever had!  Normally, Birdie and Joe are the only ones on the island and it is very peaceful and relaxing.  Joe, however, left because the silence got to him and he needed a break from his wife, Birdie.  When intruders arrive, the action really picks up and secrets are revealed.
This was an interesting read because of the various colorful characters and the different story lines going on simultaneously.  As I read, I got an ominous feeling about Heart Island and its history.  My favorite part was the excitement when Kate, Birdie, Chelsea and LuLu were beating off the bad guys.

"The Two Deaths Of Daniel Hayes" by Marcus Sakey

WOW! The Two Deaths Of Daniel Hayes by Marcus Sakey had me from page 1. Here is the premise: a man wakes up alone on the beach with only a BMW car and his registration, but is it his car and is the name of the registration his? He doesn't know! Then he finds out the cops and a killer are after him but doesn't know why. His wife that he may have killed reveals herself to be alive and well.

This book was almost impossible to put down. The plot is really good! I enjoyed it and the way it ended very much!

"Die For You" by Lisa Unger

Die For You by Lisa Unger is the story of an author, Isabel Raine, whose husband disappears and she launches into her own investigation to figure out what happened.  Fiction writers make pretty good detectives.  She loves her husband and does not hesitate to go looking for him even though it puts her in great danger.  Die For You is a fast-paced novel about trust, love, marriage, forgiveness, betrayal and identity theft.

This is one of those books that is difficult to put down because of the mystery and suspense created from the start.  I liked the insight the author gives into four different marriages, the excitement of the mob involvement, the trip to Prague and the theme of trust and forgiveness that runs through the book.   The lesson taught in this book is to get to know someone well before you marry them!
